conclusion
The Fibonacci Sequence and The Golden Ratio are interesting mathematical concepts with unique aesthetic properties.
There is an overabundance of mystical thinking, speculation and complete fiction about Fibonacci Numbers or the Golden Ratio appearing in art, ancient architecture and nature.
Much of this hoop-la stems from the Renaissance period, when the Ratio was labeled "Divine" and all things Greek were the rage. To this day, many false claims related to these concepts are so ubiquitous as to be commonly considered fact. I had accepted many of these falsehoods for much of my life, and was at first disappointed to learn the truth.
Ultimately though, I learned that the Fibonacci Sequence and Golden Ratio are mathematically interesting enough in and of themselves to not require gussying up with mystical nonsense. The universe has enough mysterious and fantastic aspects to spare us the necessity of manufacturing any more.
